| Death Records |
|
The deaths recorded in
this volume are listed in alphabetical
order for convenience. In the original
document they are not in alphabetical
order, but are listed randomly on pages
dedicated to each letter of the
alphabet. As each page was filled the
town clerk began a new page of entries
for that letter on the next blank page.
As a result it is rather difficult and
time consuming to search the death
records as is. The page number for each
entry is listed in the last column. |

Bracketed entries
indicate that the actual entry had ditto
marks instead of the information being
written out, as in the case of several
children of one pair of parents being
entered one after the other. Last names
have not been bracketed in the cases in
which the person’s name is given in the
form of "Sarah, daughter of John &
Mehitable Allen." In the case of married
women the prefixes "Mrs." and "Miss"
have been included in the column marked
"Title" because this can reveal
important information on the woman’s
marital status. If the woman’s first
name is not given but she is listed as
"Mrs. John Moody," for example, "Mrs.
John" is entered in the "Title" column.
In a few cases when a man’s first name
is not given, "Mr." is entered in the
"Title" column if it is in the original
record. Duplicate entries have been
deleted unless they are entered on
different pages or there is a
discrepancy. |
